Jordan Nine Yards Chardonnay 2024

Nine Yards sits at the pinnacle of Jordan’s Chardonnay range, combining impressive concentration with the freshness and restraint that prevent it from becoming simply a bigger, richer wine. Ripe nectarine, white peach and lemon oil are layered with toasted hazelnut, brioche and subtle vanilla, while a smoky, flinty note brings another dimension. The palate is broad and powerful, with beautifully ripe fruit wrapped in a fine, creamy texture. Well-judged oak contributes toast, spice and structure, but a firm line of citrus acidity cuts through the richness. Almond, mineral notes and savoury lees complexity gather on the finish, which is long, focused and remarkably persistent.

Produced from a small selection of Jordan Wine Estate’s finest Chardonnay fruit, Nine Yards is made only in limited quantities and represents the estate’s most ambitious expression of the variety. The Stellenbosch Kloof provides the combination of abundant sunshine and cooling maritime influence needed to achieve full flavour while retaining natural acidity. Barrel fermentation and extended maturation give the wine its depth and complexity, resulting in a serious, age-worthy Cape Chardonnay that comfortably sits alongside many considerably more expensive examples from the wider world.
