Pierre Péters Cuvée de Réserve Grand Cru Blanc de Blancs NV

This is one of those grower Champagnes that manages to feel both precise and deeply comforting at the same time. The nose is all chalk, lemon zest and white flowers at first, then broadens into notes of pear, fresh bread, almond and a little cream. On the palate it’s beautifully composed: fine-boned and mineral, but with enough reserve wine in the blend to give it real depth and softness through the middle. Citrus, white orchard fruit and a touch of grapefruit pith carry through a line of saline freshness, with a mousse that feels polished rather than frothy. The finish is long, cool and quietly persistent, leaving behind chalk, lemon oil and a gentle nutty complexity.

Pierre Péters is one of the reference-point growers of the Côte des Blancs, and Cuvée de Réserve is a brilliant introduction to the house style. It’s 100% Grand Cru Chardonnay, built around fruit from Le Mesnil-sur-Oger and other top villages, then layered with a substantial proportion of reserve wine from the estate’s perpetual reserve, which stretches back decades. That reserve component is what gives the wine its extra breadth and complexity without dulling the incisive, chalky precision that makes Pierre Péters so distinctive.
