Chassagne-Montrachet Jean-Marc Pillot 2022

Generous and beautifully textured, this 2022 Chassagne has the ripe fruit and breadth of the vintage but retains enough freshness to remain wonderfully composed. The nose opens with yellow apple, ripe pear and white peach, gradually revealing lemon curd, honeysuckle and toasted hazelnut. On the palate there is a satisfying weight of orchard and stone fruit, complemented by subtle creaminess and finely judged oak. Citrus acidity runs underneath the richer flavours, bringing definition and energy, while notes of almond, gentle spice and crushed stone appear towards a long, rounded finish. A classic expression of Chassagne that favours generosity without sacrificing balance.

Jean-Marc Pillot is based in Chassagne-Montrachet and represents the fourth generation of his family to make wine in the village, with his son Antonin now increasingly involved at the domaine. Their extensive holdings across Chassagne give them an intimate understanding of the appellation and its varied terroirs. The warmth of 2022 plays particularly well to the domaine's style, producing a village Chardonnay with impressive concentration and texture while retaining the mineral definition expected of serious white Burgundy.
