The name of Fletcher Barbaresco, ‘Recta Pete’ (shoot straight), pays homage to Dave’s family heritage as former arrow makers. If you haven’t encountered this Australian in Piedmont’s wines yet then you’re missing out. He’s an incredibly talented young winemaker, who plies his trade at one of the area’s big guns but has this fantastic project all to himself. We’ve been so fortunate to have secured the exclusive UK allocation for his wines over the years, and are thrilled to receive his 2018 Barbaresco. It’s a blend of two Cru-classified vineyard sites, 60% from Roncaglie Cru and 40% from Starderi, and is raised in old oak for two years
“Tightly wound, tense and bright, sour cherry, black tea, cranberry tang, a faint nutty creaminess, very young and perky with tannins that ripple with black tea character and a mouth-watering freshness. It’s pent up stuff here, lots of detail, layers of Chinese five spice, green herb, that red fruits character going strong. Feels built for a very long haul. Delightful now, though, albeit perhaps tough with tannin for some. Not for me. Tasted: May 2021” Rated: 95+ Points; Mike Bennie; The Wine Front.
