Mahi Sauvignon Blanc 2024

There is a welcome sense of restraint and texture to Mahi Sauvignon Blanc, offering something more nuanced than the exuberantly tropical style often associated with Marlborough. Fresh lime, grapefruit and white peach lead the nose, accompanied by elderflower, fresh herbs and a subtle flinty character. The palate is beautifully poised, with citrus and ripe orchard fruit supported by lively acidity and a gentle, almost creamy texture. Rather than relying on sheer aromatic intensity, the wine develops layers of mineral freshness, citrus peel and savoury complexity, finishing long, dry and refreshingly precise.

Founded by Brian and Nicola Bicknell, Mahi has earned a reputation for producing some of Marlborough's most individual and thoughtfully crafted wines. The name means 'our work' or 'our craft' in Māori, reflecting a philosophy centred on vineyard expression rather than overt winemaking influence. Fruit from selected Marlborough vineyards is handled with a relatively gentle approach, including the use of indigenous yeasts and a proportion of barrel fermentation to build texture and complexity. The result is Sauvignon Blanc with a distinctly gastronomic character, equally suited to fresh seafood, goat's cheese, asparagus or simply enjoying on its own.
