Juicy, spicy and full of character, The Pepper Pot is a Cape red built for generous, uncomplicated drinking without sacrificing interest. Ripe blackberry, mulberry and dark cherry are threaded with cracked black pepper, violet and dried Mediterranean herbs, while hints of liquorice and smoky spice add depth. The palate is supple and fruit-forward, with Syrah-like dark fruit and pepper at its heart, supported by soft tannins and a welcome line of freshness. Savoury herbs and gentle spice become more prominent towards the finish, keeping the ripe fruit in balance and making this an exceptionally versatile red at the table.

David Finlayson draws inspiration from the Rhône for The Pepper Pot, blending varieties that thrive in the Cape’s warm, sunny conditions. The emphasis is firmly on fragrance, spice and drinkability rather than heavy extraction or conspicuous oak, giving the wine plenty of personality while remaining immediately approachable. Its combination of ripe fruit, pepper and savoury character makes it particularly good with barbecued meats, sausages, burgers, lamb or richly flavoured Mediterranean dishes.
