Initially released in 2017 under 75cl bottles to critical acclaim, Wiston Estate have been keeping a select few magnum back for further ageing. With the additional 5 years on lees, the results are remarkable, with an abundance of fragrant English orchard fruits, honey, brioche, toasted hazelnuts, ginger and an underlying savoury minerality. Elegant and precise with impressive depth and complexity, this is a superb wine worthy of any celebratory occasion.
“Creamy, and initially lightly floral like the blossom of fruit trees, then dominated by a rich autolytic yeasty note and the first signs of honey. On the palate, this is impressively deep and rich. Mouth-filling and yet balanced by great freshness. A powerhouse of finesse, if that is not a contradiction in terms. Almost savoury on the finish thanks to that long lees ageing, ripe yellow fruit flavour balanced by citrusy acidity. Creamy riches, carried by the fine and persistent mousse. Very long. Even better than the 2013 tasted in 75-cl bottle in 2017.” – 18/20 Points Julia Harding MW, Purple Pages of JancisRobinson.com November 2020
