Hot of the press, Wiston Estate Blanc de Noirs 2014 is yet another fantastic new release from our friends over at Wiston Estate. 66% Pinot Noir and 43% Pinot Meunier from the excellent 2014 vintage make up this fantastic blend. The juice is co-pressed and fermented in five and six year old Burgundian barrels, with selected yeast. No Malolactic Fermentation takes place due to the ideal ripeness of the 2014 vintage, leaving the wine with natural malic ‘energy’. This not only brings verve and focus to the blend, but also allows fantastic potential for ageing. Lees ageing takes place for four and a half years before disgorgement in December 2020.
The end result is a wonderful example of English Blanc de Noirs. Golden amber in colour, with a fine, persistent mousse. Immediately inviting, revealing complex aromas of red apple, lemon cake and macadamia nut. The palate is round and weighty, with a brisk acidity and notes of rhubarb, dried orange and greengage. The finish is long revealing hints of Himalayan pink salt, Braeburn apple sweetness. Wiston Estate Blanc de Noirs 2014 is an exquisite second release. It will only improve with time, but why wait when its delightful now!
“This is stunning. Spiced Seville-orange bitterness but the roaring depth of that fruit and its acidity magnificent. Don’t drink it too cold. This id s fire-sipping wine. Bing on the comté.” – Tamlyn Currin, Jancis Robinson.com (Tasted 7/10/21)
