Another seriously impressive wine from the all-unoaked Serbal range, made by Philippe Caraguel at Bodega Atamisque in the Uco Valley. This is all about lean, zesty fruit and vibrant acidity unabated by the slightest hint of oak. There’s no malolactic fermentation and in the mouth the vibrancy is carried through with plenty of green apple zing, with only a nod to the sometimes heavier, peach and apricot end of the Viognier spectrum. If Torrontés is that wee bit too aromatic for some, and Chardonnay leaves others uninspired – this is a wine well worth trying.
