Awarded the royal warrant, Royal Lochnagar was Queen Victoria’s favourite distillery located one mile from Balmoral Castle. Aged in ex-Sherry butts, Royal Lochnagar 12 Year Old is a lovely, easy-drinking whisky that exudes malty, cedar wood aromas alongside fresh citrus, lychee, vanilla and sweet toffee notes. Smooth and creamy on the palate revealing oodles of toffee and vanilla sweetness complimented by notes of toasty spices, brown sugar and a long, runny honey finish. Royal Lochnagar 12 Year Old single malt is a very accessible, well-balanced Highland malt whisky worthy in any whisky collection.
“Diageo’s smallest distillery and another that has worm tubs. The character here is grassy: think hay and straw rather than lawn clippings. There’s just a hint of cereal behind, and a fresh, roasted spiciness. The palate has good central sweetness where you just get a hint of fruit. Light and fresh, and a good afternoon dram.” – The Whisky Advocate
A historic distillery situated on the edge of the Balmoral estate, Royal Lochanagar received its ‘royal’ tag from Queen Victoria after a visit that subsequently became her staple whisky. Now part of Diageo’s large portfolio, Royal Lochnagar produce a tiny scale of single malt whiskies and also makes up a key component in high-end blended whiskies, such as Jonnie Walker Blue Label.
