The famous Marqués de Murrieta needs no introduction when it comes to world class Rioja. Marqués de Murrieta Reserva 2016 is a deep, luxurious blend of 87% Tempranillo, 6% Graciano, 5% Mazuelo, 2% Garnacha, sourced from the Ygay Estate. The grapes are destemmed and then fermented in stainless steel tanks to retail freshness and fruit purity. The wine is then aged in 225 litre American oak barrels for 16 months before bottling and release. The result is a perfect balance between a lively fruit purity and classic Rioja rusticity. The nose jumps out of the glass with brilliant, aromatics of dark cherry, balanced with hints of dried violets, red pepper, thyme and graphite and spice box. Mouth-watering on the palate, mirroring the nose with a dark, expressive fruit flavour profile and a long, succulent finish. Brilliant on it’s own or paired with roasted vegetables, lamb chops or charcuterie.
“This is very structured and powerful with a dense and rich palate of ripe fruit and hints of toasted oak. Full and layered. Structured. Released February 2020. Needs a few years of bottle age.” – 94 Pts, James Suckling.
