Composed of a blend of 60% Pinot Noir and 40% Chardonnay from Louis Roederer’s 45 exceptional crus. Louis Roederer Cristal 2014 is shows a golden hue with soft, glowing highlights. Fine, steady, gentle bubbles. Intense, fragrant bouquet of concentrated candied citrus fruit mingling with roasted almonds. Powerful and complex on the palate, revealing a mixture of yellow fruit (mirabelle plum), juicy, ripe fruits (nectarine), citrus peel (candied orange) and finely-roasted nuts (hazelnut). Dense, juicy and concentrated with a long mid-palate. The finish is long and textural, with velvety salinity and savouriness. A magnificent Champagne built for many years of further development.
“Rather a wet summer followed by a usefully drying wind and picked, after a few days’ shrivel time, from 20 September over a week. 39 of the usual 45 plots went into this ‘composition’ with three Aÿ Pinot lots and three from Avize excluded. 32% oak-fermented. No malo. As usual 60% Pinot Noir, 40% Chardonnay from Roederer’s own 100% organically grown vineyards from some of the best sites. Disgorged in June 2021, dosage 7 g/l. ” 17.5 Pts, Jancis Robinson, Jancisrobinson.com (January 2022)
