Kilchoman Machir Bay Single Malt is the distilleries flagship bottling named after Islay’s most beautiful sandy beach, Machir Bay. Matured in ex-Bourbon barrels for around 6 years and then finished in Oloroso Sherry butts. The resulting Kilchoman Machir Bay is a distinct dram, full of enticing bright fruited lemon zest, green orchard fruit and sweet vanilla aromas, underlined by Kilchoman’s distinct citrus fruit and peat smoke characters. The palate is soft, complex and well-balanced. Bright tropical stone fruits balanced together with runny honey, butterscotch and waves of long-lasting citrus fruits and maritime peat smoke are all present. The finish is long lasting, lingering on the mid-palate for minutes. An excellent dram that perfectly embodies the beach after which it was named. Kilchoman Machir Bay is the perfect introduction to Islay’s whiskies.
“The dramatic coastal landscape of Machir Bay is reflected in the rugged complexity of this award winning single malt, the flagship of the Kilchoman range.” – Anthony Wills, Kilchoman Founder on the Kilchoman Machir Bay release.
Founded in 2005, Kilchoman was the first distillery to be built on Islay in over 124 years. and is the only distillery on Islay to produce . Their 100% Islay philosophy represents the revival of single farm, Single Malt whisky making. This philosophy stems from the families desire to resurrect the grass roots tradition of farm distilling, harvesting approximately 2,000 acres of farmland located around the distillery. They also employ a flock of black faced sheep to graze the land!
