Founded in 1943, this family owned producer owns 600 hectares spread over three estates in the Salento Peninsula. Win Vineyards cover 170 hectares, whilst the rest are planted for other agricultural crops including some of the oldest olive groves in the country. Vallone is known by many to produce wines that are consistently rated amongst the best in Puglia. Both 2001 and 2003 vintages of Graticciaia were awarded ‘Tre Bicchien’ in the Gambero Rosso “Wines of Italy” guide.
As one of Italy’s great red wines, Graticciaia Agricole Vallone 2012 is made from the best fruit of Vallone’s old bush-vine Negroamaro, partially dried on straw mats (known as graticci) in the Puglian sun which helps to intensify the flavour. A wine full of rich, full bodied flavour and aromas of black cherry, cassis, chocolate, tobacco and orange peel. On the palate it is generous showing opulent nuanced fruits, with fresh strawberry and blackcurrant notes with a hint of spice.
