Mendoza has rewritten the rules when it comes to high altitude as the heights are crazy. This Malbec is from the sub-district of La Consulta in Mendoza’s Uco Valley. Atamisque’s winemaker, Philippe Caraguel, can do no wrong for me. Malbec of this quality is hard to find and for sub-£20 it’s crazy. There’s layer upon layer of classic sweet Malbec fruit and subtle French oak (50% of the wine) with a resonating freshness. You really must treat yourself to a bottle or more of this – it’s the essence of Malbec.
