Nyetimber Tillington Single Vineyard 2013

Nyetimber Tillington Single Vineyard 2013

The Tillington story began for the Nyetimber Estate in 2009 when head winemaker Cherie Spriggs discovered an extraordinary parcel of Pinot Noir at the Tillington site, near Petworth, with a fantastic fruit character. This parcel is then blended with specially selected Chardonnay grapes – also exclusively from the Tillington vineyard – which add elegance and finesse to the wine. The 2010 vintage followed and now the exceptional 2013 is here. 2013 produced powerful Pinot Noir and minerally Chardonnay, so this is arguably the best Tillington yet. Fine bubbles with aromas of strawberries and raspberries thanks to the 76% Pinot Noir in the blend (the remainder is Chardonnay). Delicate and complex fruit on the palate with some notes of toasted almonds, pastry and praline. Great balance of elegance, richness and acidity with a textured, decadent finish. Perfect for gifts, buy today from Hennings Wine Merchants.

Nyetimber Estate is located in West Chiltington, West Sussex and since their original plantings of classic varieties in 1988 they have established themselves as one of England’s premier sparkling wine producers. The vineyards and production have expanded over the years but they have remained true to the Estate’s original philosophy of quality above all else. Nyetimber is fortunate to own all its vineyards, with wines being produced from their 152 hectares across West Sussex and Hampshire. Being able to grow and vinify their own Chardonnay, Pinot Noir and Pinot Meunier grapes, Nyetimber have full control over each stage of the wine making process so they can ensure quality is kept at the highest levels at all times. They also age their wines for longer than most English sparkling wine producers and will only release their wines when they are complex ready to be enjoyed. Nyetimber Tillington Single Vineyard 2010

Nyetimber Tillington 2010

Only 4,117 bottles of the Tillington 2010 have been created and each bottle is individually numbered. The Tillington story began in 2009 when head winemaker Cherie Spriggs discovered an extraordinary parcel of Pinot Noir at the site with a fantastic fruit character. This parcel is then blended with specially selected Chardonnay grapes – also exclusively from Tillington – which add elegance and finesse to the wine. The 2010 vintage is pale gold in colour, with gentle, fine bubbles that fill the nose with aromas of redcurrant, wild raspberry and toast. On the palate, the wine shows great elegance and complexity, balancing rich notes of almond and brioche with a fine minerality and a long, persistent finish. Temperatures in the early part of the 2010 growing season were slightly lower than average, but that coincided with much drier weather as well. Flowering proceeded in excellent conditions in late June and early July with hot and dry weather producing a large, even crop. Despite some cool and wet periods in August, the advancement gained in the early part of the season enabled a slow, gradual ripening and produced fine, delicate flavours in the berries.

As winemaker Cherie Spriggs says: “Since first tasting the fruit at Tillington in 2009, there’s been something really magical – quite exceptional – about this one particular parcel of Pinot Noir. The wonderful flavours that we’d tasted in 2009 were again present in the fruit during the 2010 harvest and I simply had to share these by making a second vintage of this very special wine.”

Nyetimber Classic Cuvée 2009

Nyetimber Classic Cuvee 2009

Nyetimber Classic Cuvée 2009 is perhaps one of the oldest releases currently available in the market for English sparkling wine. This does not disappoint one bit. Light golden amber in the glass with fine mousse and a nose bursting with fresh green apple and brioche characteristics. The palate is equally tantalizing, revealing caramelized apple, apricot, honey and underlying toasty brioche notes. This finish is long and oh so moreish. This really is an exemplary example of how well English sparkling wine can age and would trump most champagnes twice the price. Utterly delicious, exceptional value and one for the bucket list!

As well as being a lovely treat for you, Nyetimber Estate wines also make for beautiful gifts at any time of the year.
