Maxim Cheurlin Noëllat took over from his grandfather at the young age of 20 and is producing some of the most striking wines from a small parcel of sought-after vines. Although 2016 saw small yields, this shows a beautiful balance of acidity and tannin with layers of raspberry, red cherry and strawberry fruits accompanied by subtle Vosne-spice on a long and silky finish. This will pair well with any dish in particular duck or venison.
“The 2016 Vosne villages had finished up malo earlier and was absolutely singing at the time of my visit. The bouquet is pure, sappy and elegant, delivering a fine blend of raspberries, red plums, duck, Vosne spice tones, a lovely base of soil and cedar. On the palate the wine is fullish, suave on the attack and sappy at the core, with beautiful balance and grip, fine backend mineral drive, fine-grained tannins and a long, tangy and nascently complex finish. This is a lovely village wine.”
