A family-owned Champagne House founded in 1776, Louis Roederer has established its authority based on high-quality production. Unlike many other Champagne estates, Louis Roederer remains independent and family owned, with management being conducted by the 7th generation of the house, Frédéric Rouzaud. Louis Roederer Collection 242 NV is the newly reimagined replacement for their Brut Premier NV. Named Collection 242 after the houses 242nd harvest, this is a debut release blended mainly from 2017, with 10% reserve wines aged in oak from 2009, 2011, 2013, 2014, 2015 and 2016 with an additional 34% wine from a Perpetual Reserve that has been built up since 2012 through to 2016. Collection 242 opens with notes of white fruit, citrus zest and acacia blossom, which are followed by a light touch of roasted hazelnuts from the presence of Chardonnay. Pure and precise, Collection 242 strikes the perfect balance between youthfulness, maturity and richness.
“Deep straw colour and tiny, tiny bead. Really satisfying, complete, beautifully balanced nose with some evolution and richness. A little bit of toastiness and it tastes pretty ripe. Very different indeed from a Brut Zéro champagne! Firm. Some tasters may object to the dosage. But it’s a beautiful wine.” – 17 Pts, Jancis Robinson (July 2021)
