Named after an inlet close to the distillery, Kilchoman Sanaig is drawn from both ex-Bourbon and ex-Sherry oak casks, revealing a dram rich with fragrant dried fruits and Kilchoman’s distinct zesty citrus fruit aromas. The palate is smooth, with mouth-coating Bourbon sweetness and an abundance of delicious ripe plum, red cherries and bitter dark chocolate flavours. Layers-upon-layers of caramel, sweet toffee, spice and peat smoke characteristics show on a long-lasting finish. A superb, complex dram!
“Sanaig neatly balances the contrasting influences of rich sherry maturation, bourbon barrel finesse and Islay peat smoke.” – Anthony Wills, Kilchoman Founder
Established since 2005 and family run to this day, Kilchoman is the youngest distillery to be built on Islay in over 124 years. Their 100% Islay philosophy represents the revival of single malt whisky making cultivated from estate grown barley through to maturation and bottling all in one single location where everything from barley through to bottling is done in-house and on the estate. This philosophy stems from the families desire to resurrect the grass roots tradition of farm distilling, harvesting and utilising approximately 2,000 acres of farmland located around the distillery, with the most fertile 250 acres being used to grow barley. It is also home to a flock of black faced sheep!
