Take Kilchoman’s flagship Machir Bay bottling and releasing it as a cask strength of 58.6% abv instead of the regular 46%, the end result, this stonking 2020 Limited Edition bottling featuring Kilchoman Distilleries resident fury-friends sporting festive Santa’s hats on the label!
Drawn from ex-Bourbon and Oloroso Sherry casks, Kilchoman Machir Bay Cask Strength is fresh and expressive on the nose exuding fresh pear and tropical stone fruits alongside a big kick of Kilchoman’s distinct zesty citrus and Islay Peat smoke characteristics. Being drawn from ex-Oloroso Sherry casks, the palate reveals an abundance of bright fruited citrus, lemon and grapefruits flavours married alongside roasted almonds, cracked pepper and that mouth-watering peat smoke finish that is so often associated with Kilchoman whiskies.
“Our Machir Bay release has been bottled at cask strength for various tasting tours we have done in Europe, USA and Asia. We thought it was about time we did a Machir Bay Cask Strength batch for all our markets around the world to enjoy, especially as it’s always worked beautifully and been received so well in the past. The whisky packs a punch and delivers a big finish packed full of flavour, a perfect dram for your winter evenings,” – Anthony Wills, Kilchoman Founder.
Founded in 2005, Kilchoman was the first distillery to be built on Islay in over 124 years. and is the only distillery on Islay to produce . Their 100% Islay philosophy represents the revival of single farm, Single Malt whisky making. This philosophy stems from the families desire to resurrect the grass roots tradition of farm distilling, harvesting approximately 2,000 acres of farmland located around the distillery. They also employ a flock of black faced sheep to graze the land!
