We were so impressed when we tasted tasting Henners still wines back in February that we couldn’t resist stocking them. From the excellent, sunny 2020 vintage, Henners Gardner Street Classic is a modern English still marrying fresh, floral Bacchus with a dash of barrel-fermented Chardonnay and no malolactic fermentation. Fresh and inviting, there’s elegant elderflower florals with crisp apple and stone fruits aromas. The palate is brisk and precise mirroring the nose with a touch of fennel on an ultimately refreshing finish. Like biting into a fresh ripe apple from the orchard!
“A Bacchus-driven white blend with grass, minerals, fresh star fruit and apple on the nose and the palate. Partial fermentation in 6-year-old oak barrels helped to soften the sharp mineral acidity, leaving juicy green apple and minty herbs on the palate. The 15% barrel-fermented Chardonnay in the blend gave the wine a touch of weight and honeydew melon roundness. ‘Gardner Street’ is the historic name of Henners’ home village of Herstmonceux.” – 89 Pts, Decanter Magazine (15th September 2021)
