Fletcher Barbaresco Starderi 2018 | Magnum

Piemonte, Italy, 150cl

Dave Fletcher sources fruit from three separate vineyards across the Starderi Cru. This specific bottling comes from his favourite of the three sites - a 0.1ha parcel, planted in 1985, on the western ridge of the Cru. His Starderi is made in the same way as his straight Barbaresco but the difference between them is that this has a sense of tension and definition; everything is ratcheted up a notch or three. The tannins are tighter and more chiseled, the nose is more beguiling and complex. It's approachable now, just, but will reward those with patience.2017 vintage: "Dave Fletcher's first vintage of this cru. Just mid ruby. Beautifully perfumed nose with a clear minerally streak and still quite tight. Quite tight and compact on the palate too, yet elegant at the same time. Succulent acidity and bags of slightly puckering tannins on the finish. This will need quite a bit of time to settle, but its potential is clear. Lively acidity on the finish. Powerfully structured, yet elegant." (WS) 14% Drink 2024 – 2034 17 ++
