Sauvignon Blanc

Dog Point Sauvignon Blanc truly is an iconic Marlborough Sauvignon Blanc, made with love and passion by Ivan and Margaret Sutherland and, James and Wendy Healy. Located in Marlborough, New Zealand’s premium wine growing region, Dog Point Vineyards produce wines that respect the natural integrity of the land from which they are made and, reflect the experience and passion of the people that make them. Ivan and James met while working at Cloudy Bay Vineyards and quickly established an enduring friendship along with an appreciation of good wine. Ivan was Cloudy Bay’s viticulturist for 18 years and in the latter years a Director while James was the Company’s Oenologist for 12 years. Together they ran the vintages for a number of years and played an integral part in the evolution of the Cloudy Bay brand.

Marlborough can lay claim to starting the modern New Zealand wine industry and its Sauvignon Blanc and Pinot Noir are the varieties upon which it has made its name. The Marlborough region contains around 60% of New Zealand’s vineyards and Sauvignon Blanc is still king, followed by Pinot Noir and Chardonnay. Hot sunny days and cool nights help the wines to attain their unique flavour profiles for which the region has become famed.

Dog Point Sauvignon Blanc is crammed full of mouth-watering acidity with distinctive varietal character exhibited by ripe tropical fruits, enticing aromas of melon and lemongrass, complimented by a citrus backbone with underlying flint and minerality. Perfect for any fan of fresh and zippy whites!

The name Dog Point dates back to the earliest European settlement of Marlborough and the introduction of sheep to the district.  These were the days where, due to a lack of fences, boundary riders used boundary keeping dogs to protect the local flocks of sheep. Shepherds’ dogs sometimes became lost or wandered off, eventually breeding to form a marauding pack that attacked the same flocks they were meant to be protecting. Eventually settlers were forced to cull the dogs and the area was named Dog Point. These dogs lived on the tussock and scrub covered southern hills of Dog Point Vineyards.  This landscape was, and still is, characterised by the iconic New Zealand native plant the Ti Kouka ‘cabbage’ tree which is also an established feature of the Dog Point property.
